Iran to step up crude steel production by 20 percent

Managing director of the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO), Ahmad Ali Haratinik, announced on Friday, February 13 that Iran plans to increase its crude steel output by 20 percent in the next Iranian calendar year, starting March 21.
 
According to Mr Ali Haratinik, in 2009 Iranian annual crude steel output will be increased from the current figure of 11.4 million mt to 13.6 million mt. He anticipated that the output of finished steel products would also grow by seven percent to 11.3 million mt in the next Iranian year.

Mr Ali Haratinik added that the implementation of 10 large projects worth a total of Iranian Rials 524 billion (about $54.7 million) were included among the other plans of the organization.
