Brazil's national statistics agency, the Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatistica (IBGE), reported Tuesday that Brazilian industrial production fell 0.2 percent in August, after a 0.3 percent increase in July. Industrial production was up 1.8 percent from August 2010, however.

The August drop represents the third drop in Brazil's industrial production in the last five months. So far, industrial production in the country is up 1.4 percent over the first eight months of 2011 and is up 2.3 percent over the last 12 months, both compared to the same periods last year.
