According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Indian motor vehicle production in October this year increased 15 percent as compared to October 2011 and was up 9.4 percent month on month with 1,829,490 vehicles produced. In the first seven months of the current Indian fiscal year (started April 1, 2012), India's passenger car output rose 4.1 percent over the same period last year.
In April-October 2012, motor vehicle sales in India increased by 5.3 percent year on year, with the country's passenger car sales in April-October increasing by 2.8 percent and the commercial vehicles segment registering growth of 4.3 percent, both on year-on-year basis. However, in October Indian motor vehicle sales increased by 14.8 percent compared to October 2011, while passenger car sales rose by 23.1 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, in the April-October period of this year India's total motor vehicle exports decreased by 4.9 percent year on year. Passenger vehicle exports rose by 5.7 percent and commercial vehicle exports registered an increase of 1.6 percent in the seven months in question, both on year-on-year basis. The SIAM said that car exports from India rose by 29.2 percent in October 2012 compared to the same month of the previous year.
