Indian motor vehicle output up 10.5 percent in May

According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Indian motor vehicle production in May this year registered growth of 10.5 percent as compared to May 2011 with 1,783,384 vehicles produced. In the first two months of the current Indian fiscal year (started April 1, 2012) India's passenger car output rose 8.15 percent over the same period last year.
 
In April-May 2012, motor vehicle sales in India increased by 10.3 percent year on year, with the country's passenger car sales in April-May increasing by 3.1 percent and the commercial vehicles segment registering growth of 6.8 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
 
Meanwhile, in the April-May period of this year India's total motor vehicle exports increased by 2.9 percent year on year. Passenger vehicle exports registered a year-on-year increase of 9.5 percent in the two months in question, while commercial vehicle exports decreased by 10.6 percent, both compared to April-May 2011.
