Vizag Steel stated that its blast furnace No. 1 was halted on October 20 for capital repairs, after achieving 37.74 million mt of pig iron output in 23 years. The repairs will take 135 days and the modernization of the furnace will enhance annual production by 500,000 mt of pig iron. As SteelOrbis previously reported, the modernization works will be undertaken by the Austrian plantmaker Siemens Metals Technologies.
