Hebei to eliminate 10 million mt of dated capacities in 2010

The authorities in the northeastern Chinese province of Hebei have announced that they intend to eliminate 10 million mt of dated steel capacities in 2010 and will try to lower the energy consumption per RMB 10,000 of industrial output by seven percent.

The Hebei authorities have stated at a press conference that all relevant criteria will have to be adhered to and dated capacities will have to be eliminated strictly in accordance with national industrial policies and industry criteria, with the main focus on eliminating all blast furnaces ≤ 300 m3.

At the conference, the promotion of the strategic restructuring of Hebei Steel Group was also urged, with the aim of building it into a large-scale steel group which will be strongly competitive in the international markets.
