Global new ship deliveries down 22 percent in September

Global deliveries of new shipping vessels in September this year totaled 7.05 million deadweight tons, down 22 percent compared to the same month last year. Meanwhile, deliveries of new shipping vessels by South Korea, China, and Japan in September amounted to 3.12 million deadweight tons, 2.34 million deadweight tons, and 1.53 million deadweight tons, down 27 percent, one percent, and 13 percent respectively year on year. From January to September, total deliveries of new vessels made by South Korea, China, and Japan amounted to 33.47 million deadweight tons, 22.97 million deadweight tons, and 20.84 million deadweight tons, up 35 percent, 62 percent, and six percent year on year.

In September, 28 bulk cargo vessels accounted for 45.3 percent of global completed shipbuilding output, totaling 3.2 million deadweight tons, up 70.2 percent year on year; meanwhile, global completed shipbuilding output in September also included 23 oil tankers, totaling 2.81 million deadweight tons, down 38.2 percent year on year, covering 39.8 percent of the total output figure. In the January-September period, oil tankers, bulk cargo ships, and container ships accounted for 52 percent, 30 percent, and 14 percent respectively of the total global shipbuilding output.
