Gerdau to start production at new steel plant in Mexico later this year

Gerdau’s Corsa said it plans to commence production at a new steel plant in the city of Sahagún, in state of Hidalgo, later this year.

According to Gerdau, the new plant will have a 700,000 mt finished steel capacity as well as a 1 million mt steel production capacity.

The new plant will serve primarily the civil construction and industrial segments. Currently, the new plant is “in a period of steel tests” according to Gerdau, adding that the company expects the finished steel area of the plant to operate by the second half of the year.
