In January this year, as compared with the previous month of December, seasonally-adjusted industrial production rose by 0.2 percent both in the euro area and in the EU-27. In December, production had fallen by 1.1 percent and by 0.8 percent in the respective areas, month on month.
Meanwhile, in January of the current year compared with January 2011, seasonally-adjusted industrial production decreased by 1.2 percent in the euro area and by one percent in the EU-27. These figures are released by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.
As compared to December, in January this year production of capital goods increased 0.7 percent in the euro area and by 0.8 percent in the EU-27, while intermediate goods rose by 0.2 percent in both zones. Durable consumer goods increased by 0.1 percent in the euro area and remained stable in the EU-27.
Among the member states for which data are available, in January as compared to December industrial production rose in 14 states and fell in six. The highest increases were registered in Slovakia (+6.1%), in Lithuania (+3.6%) and in Malta (+3.3%), while the largest decreases were in Finland (-5.1%) and in Italy (-2.5%).
As compared to January 2011, in January this year production of capital goods grew by 3.1 percent in the euro area and by 3.3 percent in the EU-27, intermediate goods decreased by 1.3 percent in the euro area and by 0.9 percent in the EU-27, durable consumer goods fell by 2.2 percent in the euro area and by 1.5 percent in the EU-27, while production of energy decreased by 6.2 percent in the euro area and by 7.7 percent in the EU-27.
Among the member states for which data are available, in January this year as compared to January 2011 industrial production rose in seven states and fell in 13. The highest increases were registered in Poland (+9.1%), in Latvia (+8.2%) and in Slovakia (+7%), and the largest decreases were seen in Luxembourg (-10.4%), in Finland (-6%), in Greece (-5.2%) and in Italy (-5%).
