As previously reported by SteelOrbis, in October 2007, the European Commission and Russia signed a quota agreement for exports of Russian steel products to the EU. According to the agreement, the quota allocated to Russia for 2009 increased by 2.5 percent compared to 2008, to 3.107 million mt. The new quota became effective starting from January 2009.

Moreover, in case Russia joins WTO next year, the quotas are to be eliminated in 2010. If it does not, the quota for 2010 will be also increased 2.5 percent.
