Employment in German metal production up 2.2% in April

At the end of April this year, 242,000 persons worked in metal production and processing in Germany. As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on the basis of provisional results, the figure was 2.2 percent more than at the end of April 2011.

Employment in the manufacture of metal products and in mechanical engineering in Germany rose 4.6 percent to 496,000 persons in April this year compared to the same month of 2011. Meanwhile, the number of employees in the production of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers increased 3.6 percent year on year, to 736,000 persons.
