France's National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE) has announced that the situation in French industry has improved in May, according to a survey carried out among French business leaders, while the industrial business climate indicator increased four points in May compared to April but remained below the long-term average.

Looking at the outlook for their own individual production, French business leaders consider that the production outlook is steady but below the long-term average in the French manufacturing industry. The general production outlook, which represents business leaders' opinion on French industry as a whole, is nearly stable. Total order books are considered as being nearly stable, and export order books have decreased and have remained below the long-term average.

On the other hand, the situation continues to deteriorate in the French building industry, where the business climate indicator in May has lost two points compared to April and remains below its long-term average. The turning-point indicator is in the unfavorable zone.
