Coal exports from Australia's Newcastle port increase

In the week ended March 3, coal shipments from the Port of Newcastle in Queensland, the coal producing state of Australia, totaled 3.16 million mt, according to Newcastle Port Corporation. The figure constitutes a increase of 7.11 percent compared to the previous week ended February 24, in which a week-on-week decrease of 26.63 percent in coal shipments had been observed.

In the March 1-3 period, Newcastle port exported 1.21 million mt of thermal and coking coal. The port authority has forecast that Newcastle port will ship a total of 11.86 million mt in the whole of March. 

Anglo American, Peabody Energy, Rio Tinto and Xstrata are some of the larger exporters to ship coal from Newcastle port.
