Coal exports from Australia's Newcastle port increase

In the week ended October 28, coal shipments from the Port of Newcastle in Queensland, the coal producing state of Australia, totaled 3.61 million mt, according to Newcastle Port Corporation. The figure constitutes an increase of 12.3 percent compared to the previous week ended October 21, in which a week-on-week decrease of 0.6 percent in coal shipments had been observed.

In the October 1-28 period, Newcastle port exported 11.8 million mt of thermal and coking coal. The port authority has forecast that Newcastle port will ship a total of 12.9 million mt for the whole of October.

Anglo American, Peabody Energy, Rio Tinto and Xstrata are some of the larger exporters to ship coal from Newcastle port.
