According to the latest figures issued by the China Automobile Industry Association (CAIA), in 2011 China's total auto sales and output amounted to 18.55 million units and 18.42 million units respectively, rising by 2.45 percent and 0.84 percent compared to 2010, with these growth rates down 31.6 percentage points and 29.92 percentage points from the previous year and constituting the lowest growth rates in the last 13 years.

The CAIA stated that the slowdown in the growth rates in question in 2011 was mainly due to the withdrawal of the Chinese government's previous stimulus measures as well as due to restrictions on car purchases imposed in some cities in China.

In 2011, the passenger vehicle market in China posted a better performance as compared to the domestic commercial vehicle market. During the given year, passenger vehicle sales and output in China respectively totaled 14.47 million units and 14.49 million units, up 4.23 percent and 5.19 percent year on year.
