China’s Sichuan Province steps up spending on major projects

The Development and Reform Commission of China's Sichuan Province has announced that the province plans to implement a total of 2,242 key investment projects during 2012-2013. Amounting to a total investment of RMB 3.6694 trillion ($579.7 billion), the 2,242 key projects cover areas including infrastructure, major industry, ecological construction projects and environmental protection.
 
The commission stated that to date work has commenced on 1,054 new projects in the province, which are worth RMB 1,580 billion ($249.6 billion). The newly started projects include the reconstruction of three airports, namely, Luzhou Airport, Yinbin Airport and Suining Airport. In the current year, the Sichuan provincial government will also increase investment in railways in line with Chinese central government policy.
