China may witness excess number of steel logistics parks

The number of steel logistics parks has mushroomed in China over the past two years, as local authorities have been keen to build logistics centers for the steel industry across the country. In this context, China may witness an excess number of steel logistics parks in the coming years, as stated by participants at the first session of the Chinese Steel Logistics Forum held on September 27-28.
 
According to a survey compiled by the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing (CFLP) and the China Society of Logistics, the number of steel logistics parks in China in 2012 (including those in operation, those under construction and those in the  planning stage) totals 754, up 39.6 percent compared with 2010. 348 or 46 percent of the total are currently in operation, 241 or 32 percent of the total are under construction, while 165 or 22 percent of the total are in the planning stage.
