China’s shipbuilding output in Jan-Sept up 65%, new orders down 70%

In the first nine months of this year, the completed shipbuilding output in China totaled 27.78 million deadweight tons, up 65 percent year on year; meanwhile, newly-undertaken ship orders in this period amounted to 16.92 million deadweight tons, a slump of 70 percent year on year.

From January to September, the industrial output of a total of 1,824 Chinese shipbuilding enterprises with annual sales of more than RMB 5 million amounted to a value of RMB 394.37 billion ($57.77 billion), up 32.5 percent year on year. This growth rate was down 27.9 percentage points year on year.

The export revenues of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises during the period in question reached RMB 182.88 billion ($26.79 billion), up 19.9 percent year on year. This growth rate was down 43.1 percentage points compared with the same period last year.

In the January-August period, Chinese shipbuilding enterprises with annual sales of more than RMB 5 million achieved sales revenues of RMB 283.5 billion ($41.53 billion), up 36.6 percent year on year. This growth rate was down 20 percentage points compared with the same period last year.

Total profits registered by Chinese shipbuilding enterprises with annual sales of more than RMB 5 million during the first eight months of 2009 reached RMB 20.63 billion ($3.02 billion), down 5.6 percent year on year.
