On September 6, China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) issued another list for elimination of backward or outdated production capacities involving 182 Chinese enterprises covering 15 industrial sectors, including the iron-making, steelmaking, coke, ferroalloy, copper-smelting, zinc smelting and cement sectors.
Accordingly, one iron producer Hebei Province-based Shijiazhuang Tianli Metal Co. will close its 300 m³blast furnace which has an annual production capacity of 300,000 mt. In addition, 800,000 mt of annual steel production capacity at Henan Province-based Jiyuan Iron and Steel (Group) Co. will be eliminated with the shutdown of two converters. Meanwhile, Jiangxi Province-based Fulong Iron and Steel Co. is to halt and shut down two electric furnaces with a total annual steelmaking capacity of 300,000 mt. The capacities in question must be shut down by the end of December this year at the latest.
In early July this year, China's MIIT had issued a first list for elimination of backward or dated production capacities to be shut down by the end of September this year, including 7,795,000 mt of annual steel production capacity at a total of 22 steel producers, 10,556,000 mt of iron-making production capacity at 27 producers, and 19,510,000 mt of annual coke output capacity spread among 77 coking enterprises.
