China’s crude steel production hits new high in August

China's crude steel production in August totaled 52.327 million mt, up 9.424 million mt or 22 percent year on year. Average daily production during the month reached 1.688 million mt, up by 53,300 mt or 3.26 percent month on month. Meanwhile, crude steel production for the January-August period reached 369.6511 million mt, up 18.2839 million mt or 5.2 percent year on year.

Taking imports and exports into consideration, the newly-added supply of crude steel to China's market in August totaled 51.837 million mt, up 15.6193 million mt or 43.13 percent year on year. From January to August, the newly-added supply reached 367.8811 million mt, up 47.5591 million mt or 14.85 percent year on year.

In the month of August, China's exports of crude steel accounted for 3.97 percent of total national crude steel production; meanwhile, crude steel exports in the first eight months of this year constituted 3.58 percent of total domestic production.

China's pig iron production in August totaled 49.3131 million mt, up 9.0652 million mt or 22.5 percent year on year. At the same time, total pig iron production in the January-August period reached 357.9648 million mt, up 30.2484 million mt or 9.2 percent compared to the corresponding period in 2008.

China's finished steel production for August totaled 61.9832 million mt, up 13.8978 million mt or 28.9 percent year on year. On the other hand, national finished steel production from January to August inclusive reached 440.0828 million mt, up 41.4356 million mt or 10.4 percent year on year.

China's coke output for August totaled 31.2269 million mt, up 2.5746 million mt or nine percent year on year. Meanwhile, national coke output for the January-August period reached 221.9274 million mt, down 2.94 million mt or 1.3 percent year on year.

China's ferroalloy output totaled 1.9881 million mt in August, up 242,700 mt or 13.9 percent year on year. For the January-August period, on the other hand, national ferroalloy production reached 13.172 million mt, up 241,400 mt or 1.9 percent year on year.

In August, China's iron ore output totaled 76.6825 million mt, up 12.4685 million mt or 19.4 percent compared with the same month last year. The January-August iron ore output reached 533.1138 million mt, up 3.1004 million mt or 0.6 percent year on year.
