Speaking on November 6 at the 4th International CEO Roundtable Conference for Chinese and Multinational Corporations held in Beijing, Li Yizhong, China's Minister of Industry and Information Technology, estimated that the energy consumption per unit of industrial value-added output in China was down four percent year on year in first three quarters of 2010, following a drop of 1.25 percent in the first half of the year. Meanwhile, he said China's industrial value-added output in 2010 is expected to increase by 13.5 percent year on year.

In the first four years of the 11th five-year plan period (2006-2010), the energy consumption per GDP unit in China saw an aggregate decline of 14.38 percent, still short of the target of a 20 percent decrease for the full five-year period.

Minister Li estimated that the energy consumption per unit of industrial value-added output in China will drop six percent in 2010, and so the target of a 20 percent decrease for 2006-2010 may be achieved.
