The activity of Chilean civil construction segment decreased 2 percent in December, year-on-year, according to data from the nation’s civil construction chamber, CChC.
According to CChC, the Imacon index, which measures the segment’s activity growth, registered almost “no growth” in 2014, compared to 2013.
“Demand for [civil construction] materials and the hiring of workforce continue to weaken the segment’s activity,” Javier Hurtado, CChC’s president said, adding the local civil construction market faces a lack of investment in new projects, especially in the mining and energy segments.
According to CChC, five indicators compose the Imacon index. One of the index’s indicators, the segment’s employment rate fell by 3.1 percent in December, year-on-year.
Permits to start-up new buildings and sales from civil construction material suppliers, two of the five indicators that compose the Imacon index, increased 34.9 and 3.9 percent in December, year-on-year.
