British construction output up 5.4 percent in January

In January this year, the output volume of Great Britain's construction industry increased by 5.4 percent year on year and by 1.8 percent compared to December, according to a report released by the UK-based Office for National Statistics (ONS). In the given month, new works in country's construction activity increased by 5.9 percent year on year and by 0.8 percent month on month, while repair and maintenance work rose by 4.5 percent year on year and 3.5 percent month on month.
 
On the other hand, in the last quarter of 2013, Great Britain's new orders for construction increased by 1.5 percent compared to the previous quarter. In the last quarter of the year, orders for new housing increased by 5.2 percent, while orders for infrastructure decreased by 22.2 percent, both compared to the previous quarter.
