Australian iron ore miner Atlas Iron has announced that it shipped 1.9 million wet metric tons of iron ore in the quarter ended on June 30, falling 42 percent compared to the previous quarter. In the June quarter, the company's iron ore production amounted to 1.8 million mt, down 41 percent quarter on quarter.

According to Atlas Iron's statement, the company’s cash cost increased in the June quarter to A$46/wmt, from A$43/wmt in the previous quarter this year.

Atlas stated that the sharp fall in the iron ore price had prompted it to announce in April this year that it would suspend operations at its three Pilbara projects. Due to the suspension of mining operations, export volumes fell compared to the previous quarter.
