Argentina's Metal Workers Union (UOM) decided to continue negotiations with the nation's labor ministry one day before their scheduled April 9 strike, which was consequently suspended.  The union will comply with the mandatory renegotiations ordered by the Ministry of Labor in the conflict with business associations for better wages.

The suspension had been ordered by UOM after labor authorities approached representatives of industry in the final hours before the strike, and requested improvements to their proposal including compliance with the one-time wage increase.

As SteelOrbis previously reported, the UOM was demanding a 25 percent "salary adjustment", but could not reach an agreement.  The planned strike would have affected both Ternium-owned Siderar, Argentina's largest steel company; and ArcelorMittal-owned Acindar, the nation's largest longs producer.
