Two weeks ago, SteelOrbis reported the most commonly heard spot price transaction range for
US domestic hollow structural sections (HSS)
tubing was being heard at $49-$50 cwt. ($1080-$1102/mt or $980-$1000/nt), ex-mill; today, that range has softened by $1.00 cwt. ($22/mt or $20/nt), to $48-$49 cwt. ($1058-$1080/mt or $960-$980/nt), ex-mill, although some sources have reported deals up to $1.00 cwt. ($22/mt or $20/nt) below this range on large-tonnage orders.
Demand continues to remain steady, sources note, adding that current softness within HSS
tubing spot market prices is attributed to recent softness in
US HRC spot market prices. However, now that
US HRC spot market prices seem to have leveled, it’s believed that
US HSS spot market prices may be less prone to correction.
