Turkish domestic scrap prices decline on dollar-basis

Over the past two weeks, Turkey’s domestic scrap market has remained unchanged in terms of lira-based prices. With the Turkish lira’s ongoing depreciation against the US dollar, Turkish producers’ dollar-based prices have declined by $3-5/mt in this period. Pressure is being exerted on the deep and short sea scrap segments due to the lack of steel sales, and so Turkish mills are avoiding increases in their lira-based domestic scrap procurement prices despite the depreciation of the lira. The general range in the local Turkish scrap market for the benchmark DKP grade scrap is still at TRY 9,000-10,150/mt ($324-365/mt).
