The leading Japanese EAF-based steel producer Tokyo Steel has cut its local scrap purchase prices for all its plants, decreasing them for the first time in five months. The negative price trend observed throughout Asia has finally impacted the local Japanese scrap market and led Tokyo Steel to revise its prices.
Tokyo Steel’s general range for H2 grade scrap has declined by JPY 500/mt and is now at JPY 47,500-50,500/mt ($315-335/mt) depending on the plant. The dollar equivalent has decreased by $11/mt due to fluctuations in the Japanese yen-US dollar exchange rate.
Shindachi scrap prices of Tokyo Steel have also moved down by JPY 500/mt, to JPY 48,500-51,500/mt ($321-341/mt), also decreasing by $12/mt on dollar basis. All the prices in question are delivered and effective as of November 1.
