SteelOrbis has learned from market sources that in Turkey's Aliaga region - the only region in Turkey where ship scrapping is allowed - ship scrap prices have increased by $8-10/mt to $382/mt ex-yard over the past two weeks.

Market sources report that ship scrap prices have been revised upwards in the Turkish domestic market due to rising import scrap prices. The latest ship brought to Aliağa to be scrapped is M/V Global Spirit, a vehicles carrier, which was owned by Japan-based automobile producer Nissan. Since the beginning of the current year, 137 ships have been scrapped in the Aliağa region and 375,000 tons of melting scrap have been supplied to the scrap market.
