Although traders tell SteelOrbis that Turkish mills are attempting to push up wire rod offers to the US based on rising scrap prices, buyers in the US are largely rejecting higher offers due to low demand, flexible domestic spot prices, and emerging sources of import wire rod with competitive offers. Sources say offers from Ukraine and Russia are at or below Turkish CFR offers of wire rod to the US, which has dragged Turkish offers of imported product in the US domestic market down to $20.50-$21.50 cwt. ($410-$430/nt or $452-$474/mt) DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports—a $1.00 cwt. ($20/nt or $22/mt) decline from last week.
