With demand within the US rebar market overall starting to show signs of picking up, sources report renewed interest in rebar imports, although firm bookings are not substantial at the moment. Part of the interest is attributed to still-soft import prices, especially since US domestic rebar prices seem to be stabilizing.

This week, US import offers from Algeria and Egypt are mostly stable at $37.00-$38.00 cwt. ($816-$838/mt or $740-$760/nt) DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports, although sources report more quotations at the lower end of the range. Offers from Mexico, meanwhile, are down $1.00 cwt. ($22/mt or $20/nt) since last week, with most offers now ranging from $40.00-$41.00 cwt. ($882-$904/mt or $800-$820/nt) DDP Houston. However, sources report some Mexican offers below the $40.00 cwt. level.
