Over the past week, most Turkish mills have been attempting to increase their wire rod prices due to costlier import scrap, while only in Thrace have wire rod prices remained unchanged.

An Iskenderun-based mill has issued its official wire rod price today at TRY 16,900/mt ($593/mt) ex-works, excluding VAT. The exchange rate is taken as $1 = TRY 28.48 for pricing in the Iskenderun region as no other exchange rate has been specified locally.

"I doubt it will be a long-term price hike due to the sluggish demand and limited availability of credit in the local market," one source commented. In addition, Turkey has recently launched a safeguard measure investigation on wire rod imports, and this is also being monitored closely by local buyers.
