Turkish merchant bar export activity impacted by year-end lull

Trading activity in Turkish merchant bar exporters' target markets has slowed down significantly due to the Christmas and New Year holidays with buyers in the markets in question postponing their merchant bar purchases. Despite the weakness of demand, Turkish merchant bar producers have increased their export offers by an average of $10/mt amid higher production costs caused by the increases seen in import scrap prices in the deals concluded in Turkey last week, in addition to the lack of any significant fall in import billet prices over the past two weeks.

Turkish merchant bar export prices are currently at the following levels:

Price ($/mt)

Angle

475-485

IPN-UPN

485-495

Flat bar

495-505

All prices are on FOB basis and for January shipment.
