Slower declines in local Chinese semi-finished steel market

Tuesday, 14 July 2015 16:32:07 (GMT+3)   |   Shanghai

During the week ending July 14, domestic semi-finished steel prices in China have generally followed a slower downtrend, though billets prices in Jiangsu and Fujian have remained stable, while transaction activity in the overall market is still slack. Average prices of steel billet and slab in the local Chinese market are presented in the table below.

During the given week, since the domestic finished steel markets are still characterized by weakness, there is a lack of support for prices of raw materials and semi-finished steel. At the same time, steelmakers are reluctant to lower their semi-finished steel prices as their margins are very tight, and this has provided some support for semi-finished steel prices. It is expected that semi-finished steel prices in the Chinese domestic market will move on a stable trend in the coming week.
