Northern Brazilian rebar producer now making offers in the Southeast

Brazilian longs producer Sinobras, located in Maraba, in the northern state of Para, has started to sell rebar in the southeastern states of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, located more than 2,000 km (1,243 miles) from the plant.

To compete with the southeastern producers Gerdau, Votorantim and ArcelorMittal, Sinobras is selling its CA-50 rebar, 10mm, at BRL2,506/mt ($1,122/mt), CFR at the client’s premises in Rio de Janeiro or  Sao Paulo, a company source told SteelOrbis.
 
The source added that the production of rebar at Maraba is running at a pace of 30,000 mt per month, in line with its total capacity of 380,000 mt per month.

The Maraba plant operates with integrated technology, using as raw material the sinter feed ore supplied by Vale.
