Mexican rebar prices rise despite push for stability

In the past two  weeks, the domestic price of Mexican rebar increased $8/mt to reach $479/mt ex-mill.
 
Although suppliers for the construction industry did their best to maintain stability in the cost of materials, pressure generated by the depreciation of the Mexican peso is having an influence on prices. Construction sources expect a difficult year for the industry.

“Our suppliers can no longer sustain production costs, prices have risen between 5-8 percent in recent weeks, although we expect further increases before the end of January,” one source said.

He referred to rebar, plumbing, power tools and other materials, such as cement, plaster and sand. “Sales will have an adjustment period which we estimate at about two or three months,” he said.
