During the week ending January 19, domestic steel billet prices in Shanxi and Hebei have indicated a slight uptrend, while transaction activity in the overall market has been at low levels. Average prices of steel billet and slab in the local Chinese market are presented in the following table.
During the given week, although transaction activities for semi-finished steel have been at low levels, some steelmakers and traders have raised their prices, resulting in slight upticks in prices in some regions. Meanwhile, starting from January 18, iron ore prices have indicated a rebound, which will likely provide support for semi-finished steel prices. It is thought that semi-finished steel prices in the Chinese domestic market will indicate a slight rising trend in the coming week.
