Over the past week, Turkish official domestic merchant bar prices have remained unchanged in the local currency in the Izmir and Denizli regions, falling by only $3/mt on US dollar basis, while merchant bar prices in the Karabuk and Iskenderun regions have risen by TRY 200-300/mt ($4-7/mt) amid the ongoing currency fluctuations. In addition, one Iskenderun-based mill has set its equal angle price at TRY 20,200-20,500/mt ($658-667/mt ex-works, with an increase of TRY 200/mt ($4/mt), at an exchange rate of $1 = TRY 30.72.
Most merchant bar sellers are offering either for March delivery or from stocks. A few re-rollers are also offering their HEA/HEB (550-700 mm, standard) at TRY 25,850/mt ($841/mt), up by TRY 350/mt ($8/mt) for delivery to the Karabuk region a week ago. A few merchant bar re-rollers are offering additional discounts for serious buyers only. Most local buyers are refraining from new purchases due to the unclear financial situation in the country.
