Over the past week, Turkish official domestic merchant bar prices have fallen by TRY 100/mt in the Karabuk region, while remaining unchanged in the local currency both in the Denizli and Izmir regions. In addition, merchant bar prices have risen by TRY 130/mt in the Iskenderun region. On US dollar basis, all merchant bar prices indicate minor changes. In addition, one Iskenderun-based mill has today issued its official merchant bar price at TRY 19,230/mt ($661/mt) ex-works.
Most merchant bar sellers are offering either for February delivery or late January or from stocks. A few re-rollers are also offering their HEA/HEB (550-700 mm, standard) at TRY 24,850/mt ($854/mt) ex-works for delivery to the Karabuk region, up by only TRY 50/mt and unchanged on US dollar basis over the past week.
The general sentiment on the demand side is negative and most buyers are postponing their purchases until next year, in order to avoid VAT problems.
