In the Italian domestic market, local wire rod prices have remained unchanged since December, staying in the range of €350-360/mt ($381-391/mt) delivered to customer, but some market players state that lower prices are heard in some cases. Domestic wire rod producers are heard to have received decent volumes of orders in December for tonnages to be delivered in the first quarter.

On the export side, contrary to the situation in the rebar market, Italian wire rod producers have not been hit by an Algerian government measure which has temporarily blocked import activity. Demand for Italian wire rod coming from Algerian buyers is quite good, while Italian producers’ offers are in the range of €340-345/mt ($370-375/mt) FOB, unchanged from the export price range seen in December.
