During the week ending September 20, Chinese domestic semi-finished steel prices have mostly seen a downtrend, while transaction activity in the overall market has been at low levels. Average prices of steel billet and slab in the local Chinese market are presented in the following table.

During the given week, the downward corrections in finished steel market have exerted pressures on semi-finished steel prices. Buyers have been unwilling to make purchases, resulting in downtrend in semi-finished steel prices. Though finished steel market has not seen signs of upward improvement, market players have expected better performance in the peak season. It is thought that semi-finished steel prices in the Chinese market will move sideways in the coming week.
