Bulgarian longs buyers prefer to buy locally or from the EU these days, being cautious regarding imports from non-EU countries. Some local mills have attempted a price increase in the domestic market, but traders believe this will not be widely accepted.
Currently, domestic rebar prices in Bulgaria are at BGN 950-980/mt (€486-501/mt) CPT. The higher end is available from local producer Promet, which has increased offers this week by BGN 20/mt (€10/mt), SteelOrbis has learned. Another local seller Stomana Industry S.A. is expected to disclose new offers shortly.
According to sources, Italian rebar is on offer at €420-425/mt FOB for February shipments, which can be workable as the freight is estimated at around €22/mt. Ex-CIS rebar is available at $440-445/mt(€395-400/mt) FOB Black Sea, but the suppliers’ quota is about to be exhausted. Turkey’s quota has been used up a long time ago; however, some mills may again start offering these days, aiming to use part of “others” quota to be opened in April, SteelOrbis understands.
Aside from rebar, Bulgaria’s domestic wire rod prices are set within BGN 990-1,020 (€506-521/mt)CPT, while the price range for merchant bars is reported at BGN 1,000-1,040 (€511-532/mt) CPT. SteelOrbis has heard that ex-EU beams offers to Bulgaria are at €520-530/mt delivered.
