Domestic rebar prices in Italy move up

While domestic producers' rebar prices were at €400-410/mt ex-works in the Italian market one week ago, most producers are now offering their products at the higher range of €405-415/mt ($429-440/mt) ex-works. According to market sources, at least one local producer has started offering rebar at €425-440/mt ($451-466/mt) ex-works, but buyers have not accepted such price levels.

Due to the recent increases in local scrap prices, other Italian producers are ready to increase their rebar prices in the coming days, but demand in the local Italian rebar market is extremely weak and will not be able to support any significant price increases. According to sources, domestic rebar prices in Italy are going to increase only with the recovery of export activities, which will depend on the renewal of rebar import licenses in Algeria. Sources expect the renewal of import rebar licenses to be announced in February.
