A rebar producer in the north of Brazil told SteelOrbis that the company is currently selling rebar of the CA-50 grade and 10mm diameter in the southeast region for BRL 2,610/mt ($1,068/mt) CFR at the customer premises.
The figure compares to BRL2,520/mt ($1,078/mt) for sales by the same producer one month ago, the source said, adding that the increase reflects both the devaluation of the BRL and the reduced offer of the product by the southeastern producers in Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais states.
During September, the Brazilian imports of rebar dropped to 8,100 mt from the 44,000 mt of August, reflecting chiefly imports from Turkey reduced from 42,300 mt to 6,200 mt, while imports from Taiwan were zeroed versus 1,700 mt in August and imports from the EU have reached 1,800 mt against no imports in August.
The average FOB import price of the rebar in September went up from August by 2.3 percent to $611/mt, with the Turkish rebar imported at $609/mt and the rebar from the EU imported at $618/mt.
