During the past three weeks, cold drawing free cutting steel prices in the Turkish domestic special steel market have moved down slightly due to the declines seen in prices of locally produced wire rod which is the raw material for cold drawing carbon steel production. Although ArcellorMittal closed its plant in Spain last month, it has switched its free cutting steel production to Germany where it is producing on a small scale, causing global supply to improve. However, cold drawing free cutting steel prices have moved sideways as global demand for this product has also increased amid the slight rise seen in demand after Ramadan.
In the same period, hot rolled heat treatable and spring steel prices in Turkey had moved sideways before the end-of-Ramadan holiday amid both the upward movement seen in domestic prices of billet which is the raw material for hot drawing special steel and the weak demand conditions. Also, after the holiday, hot rolled heat treatable and spring steel prices have continued to move sideways amid stable billet prices and the ongoing weakness of demand.
Additionally, prices in the Turkish domestic special steel market are expected to remain unchanged in the coming period against the backdrop of the acceleration of price inquiries this week and competitive market conditions.
