Chinese domestic steel section prices have followed a soft trend during the past week.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have moved down during the past seven days. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 mm x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 3,530/mt ($489/mt), the price of 165 mm x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 3,550/mt ($492/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 3,630/mt ($503/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
Overall trading activity in the local steel section market has remained sluggish during the past week. Most traders have chosen to slightly reduce their quoted prices in order to close more deals, while the support from the cost side is becoming weaker, leading producers to decrease their quoted prices. Supply volumes have declined, while market inventory has increased due to the ongoing weakness of demand. As for the week ahead, as demand may improve, it is believed that steel section prices could rebound slightly.
