During the week ending September 5, Chinese domestic semi-finished steel prices have increased, while transaction activity in the market has been at low-to-medium levels. Average prices of steel billet and slab in the local Chinese market are presented in the following table.
During the given week, sentiment in the semi-finished steel market has received a boost after a fire broke out on September 1 at Bengang Steel Plate Co., as shortages of finished steel supply may result, which would provide support for prices. It is thought that semi-finished steel prices will likely move up further in the coming week.
