Brazil imported 1,500 mt of rebar from Turkey in April, 47 percent more than in March, but still far from the average volume of 11,000 mt per month in 2015, according to the country’s ministry of development, industry and foreign trade, MDIC.
The average FOB price declined by 20 percent to $399/mt, apparently in a compensation for the devaluation of the local currency in relation to the American Dollar from 2015 to 2016.
A Brazilian importer of rebar in the south of the country told SteelOrbis that, despite the reduced volume, the company plans to maintain imports of rebar from Turkey.

He mentioned that high domestic prices of the product could maintain profitability of imports, depending on FOB prices and Turkey-Brazil logistics costs.
Another source, a Brazilian steel producer, told SteelOrbis that he is selling in the domestic market the CA-50, 10mm thickness product at the equivalent to $732/mt, FOB conditions, no taxes included.
