According to Sept. 29 data from the US Department of Commerce, Enforcement and Compliance, US import tons for hot dipped galvanized sheet and strip coil for the month of September are totaled at 197,178 mt (license data), which is well above the 172,704 mt (preliminary census data) tons that arrived in August, and just slightly above the 196,175 mt (census data) tons that arrived in July. The most significant offshore source for US import HDG in September was China, at 40,096 mt (license data), followed by Brazil, at 32,989 mt (license data) and Japan, at 15,048 mt (license data.)
“All the last minute tons that were booked in advance of the HDG trade case are still arriving at the docks,” said one Texas-based source. “The excess supply is doing nothing to help market prices.” US import Galvalume prices, however, continue to remain stable. Trader sources also report they are still booking trial orders from potential new offshore sources, but trial tons remain light.
