According US steel import license data, US import tonnages of import cold rolled coil from India came in at 7,008 mt in May, but June totals came in at 24.1 tons, and July 14 data places July at 39.1 tons thus far. It should also be noted that there have been quite a few changes when it comes to Chinese import tons, which were at 523.2 mt in May, 73.6 mt in June and as of July 14, had hit 764.3 mt for the current month. The data itself is interesting, especially in that if an AD/ CVD petition is in fact filed against mills in these two countries, removing import tons from China and India will barely scratch the import market, especially since US global import tons of CRC were tallied at 296,397 mt.
In terms of the US domestic market, prices remain steady, $28-$29 cwt. ($617-$639/mt or $560-$580/nt), ex-Midwest mill. Orders and inquiries are also neutral week-on-week.
